The 5th district of Paris (also better known as the Latin Quarter) is one of the best known of the city’s central districts, located on the Left Bank (Rive Gauche) of the river Seine. The first great Parisian university, the Sorbonne, was founded here and the area has a significant student presence, with several universities and schools of higher education being located in the area. 1-Day Munich: City Center / Marienplatz

2009 January 3
by catherine

Munich is the 3rd most populous city in Germany and the capital of the federal state of Bavaria. The city itself is made up of historic buildings and impressive architecture, as much of Munich was reconstructed after World World II. National Geographic Traveler ranked Munich at number 30 out of top 100 historical destinations around the world.

One can spend many days discovering Munich… think BMW, beergarden, lederhosen, traditional Bavarian dishes… Mmmm. So far I’ve spent over a month in Munich, over 3 or 4 trips and it’s one of my favorite cities to visit and work in. This will be first of many 1-day itineraries for this fabulous city and I’ll start with the city center or better known as Marienplatz.

As Spain’s second largest city and the capital of Catalonia, Barcelona is home to the 1992 Summer Olympics and unique architectures. Winter months can be a lovely time to visit Barcelona, provided the chance of rain is low. Throughout the city, Barcelona features work of architect Antoni Gaudi. GaudĂ’s first works were designed in the style of gothic architecture and traditional Spanish architectural modes Eventually he developed his own distinct style, incorporating nature’s angles and curves into his designs.

1-Day Turin

2008 November 22
by catherine

Turin was the first capital of modern Italy, and was the host of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games. Many say that it’s the European capital of Baroque as many palaces and churches were built in this style during the kingdom of the Savoia. The city is reminiscent of Paris, with wide boulevards and portico-covered sidewalks. Turin is also home to the FIAT auto group.

Book a room at Town House 70 and request the Luxury Weekend promotion. A junior suite is available at a special rate of 119 euros per night. This boutique hotel is centrally located and serves as a great launch point for a day in Turin.
